Take Time For Yourself

Taking “You-Time” During the Holidays is Easier Than You Think!

The holidays always come up quicker than expected, and it’s almost guaranteed that you’ll be spending more time than usual on activities like socializing, spending, and general “doing,” leaving less time for resting, sleeping, and the occasional “treat yourself” moments.

That being said, it’s no secret that we as humans need a little bit of self-care to survive, especially in busy or stressful times. Read on for a few tips on how to ensure you get your downtime, even if your holiday schedule is already packed to the brim!

Create a Morning Ritual
This doesn’t have to be long or complicated. Vow to yourself that you’ll take even just 10 minutes a morning to walk, read, journal, meditate, or simply stand under the hot shower water and get relaxed for the day. Indulging in something simple first thing in the morning will make you happier overall, even if stress or trouble try to rear their ugly heads!

Unplug
The dings, buzzes, and constant need to check your email should be something you leave behind in order to observe any quality time, and the holidays are no different. No notification is as important as the conversation and memories that unfold with those that are physically present. You’ll feel happier, more relaxed, and less anxious, leaving yourself time to enjoy the festivities.

Say “no.”
Surrounding yourself with friends and family is the best part of any holiday, but don’t feel obligated to always say, “yes.” Karen from Marketing that you see three times a year doesn’t *need* you at her holiday potluck if it means you’ll be taking time away from what matters- and it’s important to remember that even feeling you need an evening alone by the fire is important.

Last but not least… Stick to your budget.
Nothing is as stressful as feeling you’ve bitten off more than you can chew, especially when it comes to spending. In addition to sitting down and being realistic with your social calendar, you need to be realistic about your budget in order to avoid unwanted anxiety and stress.

While there are plenty more ways to find time for yourself, these are a great start.
