The flowers are starting to bloom and the sun is shining brighter… it can only mean one thing: spring is upon us! The change of season can be a great opportunity to declutter your space, and therefore your mind! But there are a few steps to take before diving into your yearly cleanout.
Make a list – Get a blank notepad and leave it somewhere you walk by every day. As you notice things around the house that need a little work, note them down. It can be easier to notice things that need to be deep cleaned over a couple of weeks rather than “day of” which can have you overwhelmed by the task at hand.
Turn your hangers around – Take a little time to turn all of your hangers around and flip all of your clothes in your drawer the wrong way. As you wear things and put them back the correct way, you’ll have a visual representation of things you choose to wear constantly and be able to evaluate what you no longer enjoy wearing that you can now donate or sell.
Grab your supplies! – You might have enough trash bags and cleaners but use this opportunity to restock on things you should have around the house but may not use every day. Lightbulbs, hinge grease, and clog removers are some things you may want to add to your list.
Secure the date – Most importantly, schedule time to clean! It can be easy to keep saying, “oh we’ll do it next weekend!” if you haven’t designated a specific time. Commit to a day (or a few!), get everything done, and then treat yourself to a special dinner for a job well done!
